Wine
Wine. In the first miracle that Jesus Christ performed, Jesus turned water into wine in a wedding in Cana (John 2:1-11). There are a lot of meanings behind this miracle, but I'd like to focus on how He who has no sin became sin for us. You see, water in itself is pure, untainted. When Jesus turned water into wine, it's not just that He has become sin for us, but it is a cause of celebration. Wine is always related to celebration, a joyous occasion. Why? It is precisely through Christ's salvation that we can now celebrate a new life, a life that's reconciled back to God (Romans 8:1). Put the new life in a new wine skin (Matthew 9:17), take away the old mould that's fixed around us, and experience the freedom through truth (John 8:32). And, on the night of the Last Supper, Jesus took the cup of wine, and commanded His disciples to remember Him with the cup of wine symbolizing His blood shed for us (Luke 22:20). So, as you take up the cup of wine in communion, have you looked into it? Have you seen your reflection in it? Have you seen the new life that comes through Christ's sacrifice for you? Have you seen the celebration in heaven as you are reconciled back to our Heavenly Father? Rejoice! (Philippians 4:4) Come! (Revelation 22:17)
