1. Part of A House in Marudi Collapsed
-Before the kitchen collapsed, the financially-challenged family has already applied a few times for a grant from the welfare department to fix the structure. The owner is a security personnel, and he is the sole bread-winner of the family of 4, but he only earns about RM500 every month. Marudi welfare department sent RM2500 for fixing the house and some food and daily supply for the emergency need of the family only after the news of the collapse reached them.
Thoughts:
RM500 a month. That is a very small wage compared to the cost of living. He can't afford to spend it on any insurance as they still need to buy some food although they can plant some food around their house. There just isn't any buffer for extraordinary situations like this.
Why did the welfare department overlook the report so many times? Didn't our government promised to prioritise the people?
2. Complaint on Policemen's Bad Attitude in Niah
-After the case has been reported to the local police station in Niah via telephone, the police did not show up to investigate so the owner of the jewellery shop has to go all the way to Miri to lodge a report.
Thoughts:
The incompetence of police force reflects that change is needed in the force. Police should be the safeguard of the well-being of citizens, and the enforcers of law.
3. Old Woman Conned
-An old woman was approached by 3 strangers who promised to help to apply for the grant that government promised for low income family, but because she is illiterate, they offered to help to fill out the form and 'take pictures of her belongings to prove that she is low income". Of course, when they take away her belongings to take photos, they never returned.
Thoughts:
No wonder people here are not so friendly any more. Who knows which one of the people we meet is a conman? They also use the sympathy of others and even pretend to offer help at times to get cash/belongings from you. Whenever you offer help, just be careful and be alert of the surrounding. Best if there is someone you trust with you.
4. 包 / Guarantee Pass? (From an article by a critic)
-You want guarantee? I think this is what most people who went for driving course will be asked. It is for JPJ's on-the-road exam to apply for a driving license. Have we grow to accept this act of bribery? Let's all not do it and boycott this act. Well, ignore my last sentence. This is not an ideal world, people rather pay the unlawful to gain something isn't it?
