Today went out to dine with my housemate and she suggested to try this little restaurant because she always went by but did not go in.
I read the menu from the window, and instantly got interested to try, because they cook Si Chuan dishes there. Most of the Chinese restaurants in Perth sell Cantonese style dishes, so Si Chuan is really a rare dish style. Guess that's because most Westerners can't take spicy dishes.
It is not a big restaurant, but neat and clean, with familiar Chinese channel on the TV. I wanted to try so many dishes so had a hard time deciding, since they sell 'weird' food like ox tongue, duck neck, duck head, tripes, trotters etc, and being an adventurous diner, I like to try these things.
However, I ended up trying the basic noodle, since my housemate ordered a sour and spicy noodle.
炸酱面 (Noodle with fried bean sauce with mince pork)
The noodle is blanched just nice, not too soft nor too hard. The sesame seeds add to the fragrance of bean sauce and mixed with some garlic it just complement the noodle well. I haven't try the other炸酱面 before, but just judging it based on taste, smell and look, it is a good dish.
酸辣粉 (Hot and sour potato noodle)
Superlike this dish, it is spicy with some sour tinge to the soup. The potato noodle is light and refreshing, contrasting well with the hot and full-flavoured soup. They are not stingy on their spices and you can really taste subtly Si Chuan pepper in the soup, which becomes apparent once you finish the bowl as it numbs your tongue up a bit.
冰粉 (A jelly-like dessert with honey)
Just nice after the spiciness of dishes, cooling and lightly flavoured with honey.
The price is reasonable and there are plenty for us to choose from.
Kung Fu Kitchen is located on Newcastle St, Northbridge. Go try it out if you like spicy food, and miss asian culinary of 'weird' parts of ox and duck. Oh yeah, they have pig ears too! Going to try that next time I go there.
