Water

When I was walking to university yesterday, I passed by this patch of grass which has N sprinklers spraying out water and a lot of the water actually was actually sprinkled onto pavements and walls some just evaporated or brought onto the road by wind. It reminded me of the TARGET 60 movement by the Water Corporation, which aspect of the sprinklers actually tries to save water?

If you are a Perthian (sounds a bit like Spartians???), then you will probably be annoyed by the occasional sprinklers by the road side giving your car a free 'car wash' as you drive along the many suburban roads. I wondered why they don't use drip system instead? Sprinklers do require less pipings but will the amount of water wasted for such a dry continent justify the additional reticulation needed for drip system?
