Thrombolite

These are thrombolites formed in Lake Clifton, Western Australia. I came across it while reading the news about the Lake Clifton bush fire. They are formed by microogranisms (especially cyanobacteria) from the trapping of sedimentary grains by their biofilms. How awesome is that?
